According to a recent press release, The Sedalia Area Farmers’ Market will host a memorable and mouthwatering open ­air meal featuring all ­local food from area farmers on Saturday, Sept. 24, at the beautiful Highway Gardens on the Missouri State Fairgrounds.

The “Farm to Fork Dinner” will begin with appetizers and Missouri wine and beer at 5 p.m. followed by a family­ style meal at 6 p.m.

“We hope our market patrons, and anyone who enjoys a unique and delicious meal, will join us for this worthy cause, helping to sustain small local farms and fresh local food,” said Julie Bosse, SAFM board president.

Chef Steve Ratliff along with Meagen West, will be preparing nine courses made from all­ local ingredients. The courses will include smoked quail and rabbit, baked brie and wine-soaked wonder berries on baguette, as well as garlic spinach and roasted shishito peppers on baguette. The soup course will consist of fresh seasonal vegetable stew and french sorrel soup. The salad course includes fresh mixed greens and vegetables with smoked tomato basil vinaigrette. The main entrées will be smoked pork loin with wonderberry wine cream sauce and fresh herb roasted chicken. Other courses include dauphinoise potatoes and fresh roasted seasonal vegetables, fresh handmade breads with flavored butters. The all-local tour de palate will conclude with seasonal fruit pies and cobblers served with local roasted coffees.

A silent auction will showcase items from farmers’ market vendors and other local businesses.

Music will be provided by Knobtown Skiffle Band, Nicholas Lindenmeyer and harpist Abbie Green.

Tickets are $100 each or a table for 6 is $550 and available at the Sedalia Area Farmers’ Market, any SAFM board member or by calling Brenda at 660­281­7244 or Julie at 404­456­8784. Seating is limited to 100, and tickets are going fast. In case of rain, the “Farm to Fork Dinner” will be held at the FFA Building also located on the Fairgrounds.

Proceeds from the dinner will assist the market with operating expenses in order to keep vendor stall fees affordable. This is a great opportunity to support the market and spend a wonderful evening with friends eating delicious local food.
