Sedalia Area Farmer’s Market to Begin 13th Year on Friday, May 7
Locally grown vegetables, fruits, eggs, meats, homemade baked goods, a variety of ethnic foods, handmade soaps, and other products will be available as the Sedalia Area Farmers’ Market starts its thirteenth season in a new location. The market will open from 3 to 6 p.m. on Friday, May 7th, in the new Nucor Pavilion at the Missouri State Fairgrounds just across from Kehde’s BBQ.
The Sedalia Area Farmers’ Market is the sole producer-only market in Pettis County, meaning that all vendors must grow or make what they sell at the market. This standard translates into quality and unparalleled product freshness for customers, and also provides the opportunity to form meaningful relationships between vendor and consumer. Market board members verify producer’s integrity by visiting their farms and homes, learning the story of their products, and sharing those stories through photos and words. All vendors reside in Pettis and its contiguous counties, with limited exceptions.
On opening day, customers can expect to see cool weather crops like lettuce, kale, arugula, Swiss chard, spinach, herbs, green onions, cucumbers, carrots, broccoli, rhubarb, radishes, green tomatoes, fresh baked goods, free-range eggs, pork, beef, chicken, and lamb, El Salvadoran traditional foods, kettle corn, coffee, wine reduction and bar-b-que sauces, as well as some crafts. There will be also vegetable plants, bedding plants, and flowering baskets! The Little Sprouts kids area will have a special Mother’s Day project to share. While the CDC confirms the low risk of outdoor COVID19 transmission, customers are asked to continue to respect 6-foot or more distancing recommendations. Masks are encouraged but not required.
