Sedalia PD K9 Rocky Helps Detectives Find Meth

Sedalia Police K9 Rocky helped detectives of Sedalia Police Department's Crime Resolution Unit detect the presence of illegal drugs during a traffic stop on Tuesday, June 7, 2022. This is according to a release posted on the Sedalia Police Department's Facebook page.

Detectives stopped a vehicle for a license violation. And while talking with the occupants of the vehicle, detectives noticed the backseat passenger attempting to hide his face. That passenger provided a false name and was later identified as David J. Dotson. Dotson was wanted on a warrant for failure to appear for an original charge of tampering with a motor vehicle out of Morgan County. Dotson was placed under arrest.

K9 Rocky was brought to the scene for a search of the vehicle and altered to the presence of illegal drugs in the vehicle. Police then searched the driver, Phillip R. Fry, and found him in possession of methamphetamine and was placed under arrest.

Another passenger, Kenneth A. Smith, was found to be in possession of nearly 2.5 ounces of methamphetamine. Additional evidence indicated he was involved in distributing the substance. Smith was placed under arrest and transported to the Pettis County Jail where he was placed under a 24-hour hold.

State charges of 1st-degree drug trafficking, possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia have all been requested.
