Sedalia Police Reports for April 25, 2024

Tuesday morning, Officers conducted a traffic stop into the parking lot of Harbor Freight, 1705 West Broadway Boulevard, on a vehicle with expired registration. After checking the information of the occupants, one of them had an active warrant for his arrest. Donovan Isreal Baylis, 30, of Sedalia, was arrested for his Failure to Appear warrant issued in April of 2024 on original charges of Operating a Motor Vehicle on the Highway Without A Valid License. Baylis was transported to the Pettis County Jail pending a cash only bond of $150.00.

Sedalia Police were dispatched to the Wendy’s restaurant, 1301 South Limit Avenue, in reference to found property Wednesday evening. Officers spoke with the reporting party that stated they located a wallet inside the business. Officers attempted to contact the owner of the wallet, but were unsuccessful. The wallet was collected and placed into evidence.

Sunday morning, Officers were dispatched to the Wal Mart store, 3201 West Broadway Boulevard, in reference to a shoplifting call. Contact was made with the two suspects. One of the suspects was released, and the other was arrested. John Dylan Mansfield, 32, of Sedalia, was arrested on a charge of Shoplifting and Failure to Obey*. Mansfield was booked and released from the Pettis County Jail.

Officers spoke with Melissa Turner in the lobby of the Police Department Wednesday evening. Turner stated she had found a debit card near the area of West 5th Street and South Moniteau Avenue. The name on the debit card was checked in the department in-house, and there were no matches for the name. The item was placed into evidence as found property.

Wednesday morning, an Officer was called the Probation and Parole Office, 205 Thompson Road in reference to a warrant check. Contact was made with the suspect, and their warrant was confirmed active from Pettis County on a felony charge of Driving While Revoked. The warrant was issued in March of 2024 after an incident in September of 2023, where the suspect was pulled over in a red Ford F150 with a registration sticker that was forged. The suspect admitted the license plate did not belong to him, and went to another vehicle. The Officer at the time also noted the suspect was driving while his license was revoked, and at the time, had fourteen prior convictions of Driving While Suspended and Driving While Revoked. Charles Shane Spellmeyer, 55, of Green Ridge, was placed under arrest on a felony charge of Driving While Revoked. Spellmeyer was transported to the Pettis County Jail pending a cash or surety bond of $10,000.

*24SEDMU00391 in Casenet stated Mansfield is charged only with Failure to Obey A Lawful Order. In the citation, the Officer notes Mansfield was interfering with the interview of the other suspect.
