Early Monday morning, Sedalia Police initiated a traffic stop on a motor vehicle for expired registration. Upon contact with the driver and occupant, Officers smelled the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. The vehicle was searched and marijuana paraphernalia and two marijuana joints were found. A city summons was issued to Megan E. Stevens, 27, of Green Ridge for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia with a court date. Both Stevens and the driver were released from the scene.


 

Sunday morning, Officers responded to the Prime Time Store, 216 West Broadway Boulevard, in reference to an assault that had just occurred. Officers arrived on scene and found the injured victim in the parking lot. The suspect is known to the victim. No contact has been made with the suspect at this time. Charges for Assault in the 3rd Degree will be sent to the prosecutor for review.


 

Sedalia Police took a report in the Police Department Lobby of a stolen vehicle Sunday morning. Nicole Z. Kuzma reported that a subject known to her was given the red 1998 Ford Expedition to make repairs, but has refused to return the vehicle. The vehicle was valued at $4000.


 

Sunday evening, Officers responded to the 1600 block of East 7th Street for an aggressive dog loose in the area. Officers made contact with owner, Kimberly Kay Bosworth, 53, of Sedalia. Dispatch showed Bosworth had a Pettis County warrant with bond at $5,000 cash or surety. Bosworth was given a verbal warning for the loose dog, and arrested on the warrant. Bosworth was transported to the Pettis County Jail to be booked on the warrant.


 

Sedalia Police performed a traffic stop on a Mercury van, as the vehicle had defective equipment Sunday morning. The traffic stop took place near the area of West Broadway Boulevard and Thompson Boulevard. Officers spoke to the driver and a single occupant. Investigation during the stop revealed the river was in possession of marijuana related paraphernalia, while the occupant was in possession of marijuana. Tristen M. Smith, 20, of LaMonte, received a Sedalia Municipal court summons for Possession of Marijuana. Gary L. Winslow, 61, of LaMonte, was given a Sedalia Municipal court summons for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.


 

Saturday evening, Officers Performed a traffic stop on a blue Suburban as the vehicle's license plate checked to a Pontiac. The traffic stop took place in the area of West 16th Street and South Grand Avenue. Officers spoke to the driver and a single occupant, whereupon Officers learned the driver had a suspended license. Gavin C. Bradford, 34, of Sedalia, was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail for Driving While Suspended, where he was booked and released.


 

Sunday morning, Officers responded to the 1200 block of South Park Avenue for a physical disturbance. On arrival, Officers met with the people involved, who stated a door to the property was damaged, and the subjects involved had been fighting inside the residence. The people involved separated. A primary physical aggressor could not be determined. A 12 hour log was completed for documentation purposes.


 

Saturday evening, Sedalia Police stopped a vehicle in the 1400 block of South Limit Avenue for no registration. Due to behaviors of the operator, a consent to search of the vehicle was requested. The operator admitted to the presence of illegal items inside the vehicle, and a search was completed. Items related to drug activity were located and seized. Amber Dawn Portillo Ortega, 29, Homeless, was arrested without incident and transported to the Pettis County Jail pending charges of Possession of a Dangerous Drug and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Portillo Ortega was permitted a book and release while formal charges are being sought.


 

Friday morning, Keith Kirby contacted the Sedalia Police Department in regard to a break in which had occurred between March 9 and March 12th. The suspect had broken down a $2,000 hand made door and stole several items with a combined value of $610. Kirby stated he would like to press charges.


 

Officers were dispatched to the 2400 block of West Main Street in regards to a disturbance Saturday afternoon. Upon Officers' arrival, it was found that two brothers had gotten into an argument which had escalated, with both of them punching each other. Officers were unable to make contact with one of the parties, due to them being uncooperative. The subject had minor injuries, and refused medical treatment. A 12 hour log has been completed to document the incident.


 

Early Sunday, Officers were dispatched to the 1200 block of South Park Avenue for a report of a disturbance. Upon arrival, Officers made contact with the victim. The victim stated the suspect had hit him over the head with an air fryer. The suspect was later located in the 400 block of East Boonville Street. Jayden David Mathis, 17, of Sedalia, was arrested for Domestic Assault in the 3rd Degree. Mathis was placed on a 24 hour hold at the Pettis county Jail pending the filing of charges.


 

Sedalia Police were dispatched to the 500 block of West 6th Street in reference to a disturbance Sunday night. The caller alleged they witnessed a male put a female into a headlock, and he was assaulting the female. Officers spoke to the male and female involved; they are in a romantic relationship. The headlock portion of the call was unfounded, but each pushed/shoved each other. Neither had any apparent injuries. A 12 hour log was done to document the incident.


 

Sedalia Police were dispatched to Spring Fork Lake Friday night for a vehicle on fire. The vehicle was not occupied. The fire is being investigated.


 

Friday night, Officers initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle with no rear registration near East Main and South Lamine Avenue. A check through Dispatch showed the passenger had an active Pettis County Warrant for Failure to Appear on original charges of Driving While Suspended and Failure to Wear a Seat Belt, and a City of Sedalia Failure to Appear warrant on original charges of Operating a Motor Vehicle on a the Highway While Suspended. John W. Bryant, 48, of Sedalia, was arrested, transported to the Pettis County Jail, and booked for his warrants with a bond set at $350 total. The driver was given a verbal warning and released from the scene.


 

Officers were dispatched to the 1700 block of Heck Avenue Friday night for a possible trespassing call. While speaking with subjects, a glass methamphetamine pipe was observed and the possessor was arrested. Jonathan E. Jamison, 26, Homeless, was transported to the Pettis County Jail, where he was placed on a 24 hour hold pending the filing of formal charges of Possession of a Dangerous Drug and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.


 

Sedalia Police stopped a car in the area of South Limit Avenue and West 16th Street Friday night for a headlight out. After an investigation, it was determined that the driver was impaired by drugs. Devin Scott Heinen, 18, of Sedalia, was placed under arrest for Driving While Intoxicated. Heinen was transported to a hospital, then to the Pettis County Jail pending release to a sober person.


 

Friday evening, a traffic stop was conducted at the intersection of West Broadway Boulevard and South State Fair Boulevard for a vehicle travelling the wrong way on a one way street. Following a brief investigation, the driver of the vehicle was arrested on a charge of Driving While Suspended. Mark R. Boydston, 59, of Kansas City, was transported to the Sedalia Police Department where he was processed and released with a court date.


 

Officers were dispatched to the lobby of the Sedalia Police Department in reference to a property damage report Friday night. Samuel E. Campbell reported the damage had taken place earlier in the evening. Campbell's vehicle was parked in the 1300 block of South Grand Avenue while he went to dinner. When Campbell returned, the driver's side lock on the vehicle had been damaged.


 

Early Saturday morning, Officers initiated a traffic stop on a motor vehicle with a defective license plate near East 3rd Street and South Lafayette Avenue. A check through Dispatch showed one of the occupants had an active full US Extradition warrant out of the State of Texas, no bond. Raymond T. Gomez, 36, of Bracketville, Texas, was arrested for his warrant. Gomez was transported and booked into the Pettis County Jail and was placed on a 24 hour hold, pending a charge of Fugitive From Justice.


 

Sedalia Police stopped a car in the 900 block of East 3rd Street for moving violations Saturday morning. After an investigation, it was determined that the driver was impaired by drugs. Andrew Justin Max Lange, 21, of Sedalia, was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated. Lange was transported to a hospital and then to the Pettis County Jail to be booked in on a state charge of Driving While Intoxicated by Drugs, pending release to a sober person.


 

Saturday evening, Officers initiated a traffic stop on a car at East 12th Street and South Merriam Avenue for displaying two different expired plates. The plates were seized, and the driver was issued citations for Expired Operator's, No Insurance, and Expired and Improper Registration.


 

Saturday evening, Officers responded to the Wal Mart store, 3201 West Broadway Boulevard, in reference to a disturbance in the parking lot. Officers made contact with two juveniles and their parents at the car. The juveniles were fighting in the car, but had been broken up when Officers arrived. The parent's information was ran through Dispatch. Samantha M. Johnson, 32, of Higginsville, had a warrant for Failure to Appear out of Johnson County on original charges of Operating a Motor Vehicle on a Highway Without a Valid License. The warrant was confirmed and Johnson was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail with a $300 cash only bond.


 

Sedalia Police were dispatched to the 600 block of East 9th Street Saturday morning for a report of trespassing. The alleged trespasser was contacted and alleged to have permission to be at the property. A records check found the alleged trespasser had an active arrest warrant out of the Probation and Parole District with no bond. Original charges on the warrant were Burglary in the 2nd Degree, Stealing, Property Damage in the 2nd Degree, and Trespassing the 1st Degree. Jasmine U. McCartney, 30, Homeless, was arrested without incident and transported to the Pettis County Jail for processing. The matter regarding the alleged trespassing hasn't been confirmed at the time of the report.


 

Friday night, Officers performed a traffic stop on a black Chevy Impala for speed in the 3200 block of South Limit Avenue. A computer check of the driver confirmed him to be suspended. Jeremy A. McDaniel, 30, of Sedalia, was arrested for Driving While Suspended and transported to the Pettis County Jail. Upon entering the jail, McDaniel was found to be in possession of methamphetamine. Additional charges of Possession of a Dangerous Drug and Introduction of a Controlled Substance into a Jail Facility are being requested. McDaniel was placed on a 24 hour hold pending state charges.


 

Saturday afternoon, John David Mullis came to the Police Headquarters to turn in a debit card he found in the area of East 3rd Street and South Washington Avenue. Officers were not able to identify the owner. The debit card was placed into evidence as found property.


 

Friday afternoon, Paul Chittum reported a theft from his residence in the 400 block of East 7th Street. Chittum reported a person known to him stole $400 while they were inside his residence. At the time of the report, the suspect's location isn't known. The case is being forwarded to the Pettis County Prosecutor's Office for review.


 

Friday afternoon, Officers were dispatched to the 500 block of West 7th Street in reference to a subject possibly throwing hammers around their apartment. Prior to Officer's arrival, they were notified that the subject in question had three warrants. Two of the warrants were Parole Violations on original charges of Assault in the 2nd Degree, Domestic Assault in the 3rd Degree, Resisting Arrest, and Domestic Assault in the 2nd Degree. One of the warrants was a Failure to Appear on original charges of Operating a Motor Vehicle on the Highway Without a Valid License. Upon arrival, Officers made contact with the subject, who originally refused to come outside. Once Officers were able to talk him out of the apartment, he attempted to run back inside (it should be noted that the subject was previously known to have an ax inside the apartment). Officers were able to prevent the subject from getting back into the residence. Michail Ray Cowherd, 31, of Sedalia, was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail for his warrants and was placed on a 24 hour hold pending additional charges. The following charges are being requested: felony Resisting Arrest, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Introducing a Controlled Substance into a County Jail, and Endangering the Welfare of a Child in the 1st Degree.


 

Friday morning, Officers responded to the 400 block of North Engineer for a juvenile problem. After speaking to the guardian, it appears there is a behavioral problem the guardian can't control and requested assistance. A referral is being forwarded to the Pettis County Juvenile Office.


 

Friday afternoon, Stephen Bartlett came to the Police Station to report his children's mother was interfering with custody. The case is being forwarded to the Pettis County Prosecutor's Office for review.


 

Sedalia Police observed an older model Chevrolet Suburban with improper registration in the area of the Wal Mart store, 3201 West Broadway Friday afternoon. Officers initiated a traffic stop and made contact with the suspect. The suspect's information was ran through Dispatch, showing the suspect had a warrant out of Pettis County for Hit and Run. Dustin Michael Bertand, 26, of Sedalia, was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail with a cash or surety bond of $5,000.


 

On the afternoon of March 24th, Inga M Gagiena came to the Police Headquarters to make a theft report. Gagiena stated that she sold a vehicle to another person on March 21st in Sedalia. At the time of the transaction, Gagiena's license plates were still on the vehicle. Officers spoke to the suspects, who advised that they would be mailing the plates to Gagiena. As of April 2nd, the license plates have not been returned. The license plates will be entered into MULES as stolen.


 

Friday evening, a car was stopped for having no license plate lights. A warrant check of the driver revealed she had a Failure to Appear warrant out of Cooper County on original charges of Attempted Escape from Confinement with a $1,000 cash only bond and a warrant out of Pettis County for Failure to Appear on original charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance with no bond. Dawn M. Reimund, 48, of Gravois Mills, was arrested on the warrants and transported to the Pettis County Jail.


 

Friday evening, Sedalia Police responded to the 200 block of West 6th Street in reference to a burglary that recently occurred. Terry Allen Schoenthal reported a Playstation 4, valued at $200 was stolen. Suspect information was gathered.


 

Early Saturday morning, Officers conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of West Broadway Boulevard and South Stewart Avenue for speeding. Miguel A. Ortega-Bamaca was arrested for felony no driver's license and transported to the Pettis County Jail, where he was placed on a 24 hour hold while charges are requested. Charges pending are Driving While Suspended, Exceeding the Speed Limit, and Operating a Motor Vehicle on a Highway without a Valid License.


 

Friday night, Officers responded to the 600 block of South Washington for a subject check. Officers made contact with the subject. It was determined she was intoxicated and unable to care for herself. The subject was unable to contact anyone to come pick her up and take care of her. Sarita Linda Leon, 59, of Sedalia, was taken into custody for a 12 hour Safekeeping hold at the Pettis County Jail. No criminal charges are being sought.


 

Friday evening, Officers responded to the 100 block of South Harding Avenue for a report of a domestic disturbance. Through the investigation, it was found that the suspect had initiated physical contact with her domestic partner and the victim sustained minor injury during that contact. Kimberly D. Lyman, 39, of Sedalia, was arrested for Domestic Assault in the 3rd Degree and transported to the Pettis County Jail, where she was placed on a 24 hour hold pending the charge.


 

Friday afternoon, Officers responded to the 100 block of West Main Street in reference to a property damage report. Heather Dawn Snyder stated that her tires were cut. A suspect has been identified and contacted, but refused to provide a statement.


 

On the evening of April 1st, Officers conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of South Grand Avenue and La Grand Drive for a moving violation. A passenger in the vehicle was found to be in possession of a stolen handgun. The passenger was also a convicted felon and therefore prohibited from possessing a firearm. Patricia K. Ryan, 25, of Independence, was arrested on charges of Unlawful Possession of a Concealable Weapon, Receiving Stolen Property, and Possession of Marijuana.


 

Sedalia Police were dispatched to the lobby of the Police Department in reference to a missing persons report on the evening of April 1st. Officers made contact with an employee of New Haven, who said one of their residents did not return home after school. The employee stated the missing juvenile had rode the bus home with a friend and was last seen leaving the bus stop. The juvenile has not been located at this time.


 

Last Thursday evening, Officers were dispatched to the 900 block of Sue Lane for an animal complaint. The victim said her neighbor's dog barks constantly and for no reason. The victim wanted to pursue charges and a municipal summons for Dogs Barking and Annoying Others was issued to Michelle Lee Waiz, 50, of Sedalia.


 

Last Thursday evening, Officers were dispatched to the 2200 block of West 1st Street for a domestic disturbance. Both subjects stated they were in an altercation, but a primary physical aggressor could not be determined. The incident is being documented for a 12 hour log.


 

Officers met last Thursday afternoon with Robert Inlow in the lobby of the Police Department in reference to a hit and run accident. Inlow advised that he was involved in a collision with another vehicle near the intersection of West 3rd Street and Gentry Avenue. The other vehicle involved left the scene without providing information. At the time of the report, the suspect has not been identified.


 

Thursday morning, Officers made a traffic stop in the area of East 16th and South New York for a vehicle that didn't have any license plates. Officers made contact with the driver, and ran his information through Dispatch, revealing three active Failure to Appear warrants out of the City of Sedalia on original charges of Driving in the Wrong Direction and Operating a Motor Vehicle on the Highway While Suspended. The driver also had a revoked license. Austin Tyler 24, of Sedalia, was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail, where he had a bond of $300 cash only on the warrants. Tyler was booked and released on the revoked license charge.


 

On the afternoon of March 21st, an Officer was dispatched to the lobby of the Police Department in reference to a theft report. Edward Marshall said a bag was stolen out of his residence in the 400 block of North Mill Street. The total value of items stolen was $283.
