Sedalia Police Reports For August 25, 2021

Monday morning, Officers were dispatched to the 200 block of South Quincy Avenue for a report of a subject who was not breathing. Upon arrival, Officers began CPR and after a short time, Sedalia Fire and Paramedics arrived and assisted with life saving measures. The subject was later determined to be deceased. There is no foul play suspected at this time.

Sedalia Police were dispatched to the 600 block of South Moniteau Avenue for a disturbance Tuesday evening. The incident was determined to be a domestic dispute. The primary physical aggressor was determined, arrested, and transported to the Pettis County Jail. Anita Marie Burke, 48, of Sedalia, was placed on a 24 hour hold pending state charges of Domestic Assault in the 3rd Degree and Resisting Arrest.

Late Tuesday night, Officers conducted a traffic stop on a motor vehicle in the area of West 20th Street and South Missouri Avenue for a registration violation. The driver's information was run through Dispatch, and his license was found to be revoked. Eric Joseph Thomas, 20, of Sedalia, was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail, where he was booked and released pending charges of Driving While Revoked.

Officers were dispatched to the 400 block of Babcock Avenue in reference to an assault Tuesday evening. When Officers arrived, they spoke with the caller, who said their 14 year old had struck their 10 year old in the head with a bowl. The ten year old had to go to the hospital for treatment. A juvenile referral was completed.

Tuesday night, Officers responded to the Bothwell Hospital for a report of an animal bite that had occurred in the 1300 block of East 7th Street. James Marlon Curd stated that his two dogs had been in a fight and while trying to break it up, he had gotten bit.

Early Wednesday morning, Officers responded to a vehicle accident in the intersection of West Broadway Boulevard and South Kentucky Avenue. A witness was identified and Dispatch confirmed the witness had a Failure to Appear warrant out of Miller County on original charges of Failure to Maintain Financial Responsibility and Failure to Wear a Seat Belt. Keith Alan Rothlisberger, 41, of Eldon, was placed under arrest and transported to the Pettis County Jail. Bond was set at $2,000.

Sedalia Police were on a general patrol near West 5th Street and South Vermont Avenue Wednesday morning when they observed a bicycle operating on city streets without lights. The cyclist was identified as Nelson J. Elias Jr., and found to be in possession of an apparent controlled substance. The cyclist was released from the scene pending lab results.

Officers were dispatched to the 1600 block of East 6th Street late Monday night in reference to a theft. When Officers arrived, they spoke with Jordan T. Watt, who said the titles to his cars had been stolen. No arrests have been made at this time.

Wednesday morning, Officers were dispatched to the 1000 block of South State Fair Boulevard to take a found property report. James H. Kreisel had located an iPad in the roadway near West Broadway Boulevard and Thompson Road. Officers were able to locate the owner and return the item to them.

Sedalia Police responded to the 1600 block of South Engineer for a report of a mental subject Tuesday evening. When Officers arrived, a female was located on the ground with her dog. The female was placed inside an ambulance and transported to the Bothwell Regional Health Center for further care.

Tuesday afternoon, Officers responded to the 300 block of North Harding Avenue for a theft report. James Joseph O'Connor reported a vehicle trailer was stolen. The value of the trailer was set at $4,325.00.

Officers assisted the Pettis County Children's Division in the course of an investigation in the 400 block of South Grand Avenue Monday afternoon. The incident was documented, and no actions were taken.

Sedalia Police were dispatched to the lobby of the Police Department Tuesday afternoon in reference to found property. A driver's license and debit card were turned in to an Officer. The Officer attempted to make contact with the owners, but was unsuccessful. The items were entered into evidence for safe keeping.

Tuesday afternoon, an Officer initiated a traffic stop on an SUV near East Main Street and South Missouri for improper registration. It was determined that the plates belonged to the previous owner of the vehicle, and were not taken off at the time of the sale. The plates were seized.

Tuesday afternoon, Officers took a report of found property at the Police Department. The property was added into evidence. There was no further information in the report.

Sedalia Police took a report in the lobby of the Police Department in regards to forgery and fraud Tuesday afternoon. Sandra Jackson reported the suspect had attempted to take $500.

Officers responded to the area of South Harrison Avenue and Magnolia Avenue in reference to a found bullet casing Tuesday afternoon. Upon arrival, Officers met with an area resident who had recovered the casing from the intersection. Officers searched the intersection further and located four additional bullet casings, indicating a total of five shots had been fired in the intersection at some point. The casings were collected as evidence. The casings may be related to an earlier call in which several people in the area reported hearing gun shots.

Tuesday afternoon, Officers responded to the area of East Broadway Boulevard and South Lamine Avenue in reference to a hit and run accident. Upon arrival, Officers met with Madisen Bottcher, who explained she was rear-ended near the intersection. The striking vehicle then fled the scene southbound on Lamine Avenue from Broadway Boulevard. A description of the vehicle and the driver were obtained.

Tuesday morning, Officers responded to the 1700 block of East 7th Street in reference to a hit and run accident. Upon arrival, Officers met with Zane Harding, who stated his vehicle was struck during the overnight hours while parked in front of his residence. The striking vehicle left without providing information. Parts from the suspect vehicle were recovered from the scene.
