Sedalia Police Reports For February 3, 2023

Early Friday morning, Officers were dispatched to the Liberty Park, 1500 West 3rd Street, for a report of a dog that had fallen though the ice of the lagoon. Just over one minute after, Officers arrived on scene, and the dog slipped under the ice. The Sedalia Fire Department deployed their water rescue team and were able to retrieve the dog from under the water. Life saving measures were started, but ultimately the dog passed. The dog's owner has not yet been identified.

Officers responded to the 1500 block of East 6th Street in reference to a physical domestic disturbance Friday morning. Both parties involved had minor physical injuries, but a primary physical aggressor could not be determined. A 12 hour log will be done to document the incident.

Thursday evening, Officers responded to the Police Department lobby in reference to a report of lost property. Amy Peter stated she had left her purse outside in the 200 block of South Moniteau Avenue. When she came back for it, it was gone. There are no suspects at this time.

Sedalia Police were dispatched to a burglary in progress in the 1900 block of South Harrison Avenue early Friday morning. The victim reported a subject was forcing entry into the front door of the residence. Officers arrived and located the suspect exiting the front door of the house. The suspect told Officers she did not reside at the residence, but was known to the resident. The suspect was detained pending further investigation. The suspect had an open knife on her person at the time of detention. After further investigation, it was determined that the suspect unlawfully entered the residence and assaulted the resident. During the incident, the suspect presented a knife in a threatening manner to the victim. Morgan R. Hawkins, 24, of Kansas City, was arrested and placed on a 24 hour hold pending filing of formal charges. Charges of Burglary in the 1st Degree, felony Aggravated Domestic Assault in the 4th Degree, and Armed Criminal Action are being sought against Hawkins.

Thursday night, Officers initiated a traffic stop on a black Hyundai in the area of East 17th Street and South Collins Avenue for a registration violation. Officers made contact with multiple occupants inside the vehicle. Officers checked the information of all parties through Dispatch. Dispatch advised one the of the occupants had a warrant for their arrest out of Pettis County on felony charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance. Jon A. Zaremba, 32, of Sedalia, was arrested on his warrant pending a $7,500 cash or surety bond.

Sedalia Police came across some lost tools that were laying in the roadway in the area of South Grand Avenue and West Broadway Boulevard Thursday evening. A report was completed.

Officers were dispatched to The Buckle, 890 Thompson Boulevard, in reference to a theft report Thursday morning. A suspect entered the store, put merchandise on underneath their clothing, and then ran out of the store without paying.

Thursday afternoon, Officers were dispatched to the Wal-Mart store, 3201 West Broadway Boulevard, in reference to a forgery report. Two suspects came into the store and used counterfeit $100 bills to pay for items and get cash back.

Officers were dispatched to the lobby of the Police Department in reference to a theft report Thursday afternoon. Wendy Walker reported a suspect paid for services at Salon Ego, 766 Winchester Drive, using a bad check.

Sedalia Police were dispatched to the Menard's store, 4400 Wisconsin Avenue, in reference to a forgery report. Someone came into the store and paid for items using a counterfeit $100 bill Thursday morning.

Thursday morning, Officers made contact with a female subject whose dog was at the Katy Park, 2100 Clinton Road, without a leash. The subject was found to have an active Pettis County warrant for felony Possession of a Controlled Substance. Raime E. Bain, 32, of Sedalia, was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail with a $7,500 cash or surety bond.

Friday morning, Sedalia Police, Sedalia Fire, and the Pettis County Ambulance District were dispatched to the 500 block of East 4th Street in reference to a possible overdose. Information was provided that the victim was not breathing or conscious. Officers arrived and made contact with the victim. The caller stated they had administered NARCAN and performed CPR on the victim before Officers arrived. The victim was not initially responsive, and did not appear to be breathing. The victim began agonal breathing* and became unresponsive. He was placed onto the floor and Officers administered a dose of NARCAN nasally. The victim became responsive and was able to speak to Officers. The victim admitted to ingesting pills, causing the overdose. PCAD and Sedalia Fire took over care of the victim. The victim was transported to the BRHC by PCAD for further evaluation.

Wednesday afternoon, Officers were dispatched to the Hibbett Sports, 3115 West Broadway Boulevard, in reference to a theft report. Kevin Walker stated he lost his wallet in the store, and it was not turned in anywhere.

On the afternoon of January 29th, an Officer was dispatched to the lobby of the Police Department in reference to a general information report. The reporting party, who was not named in the report, said they loaned their vehicle to someone and it was returned damaged in the 2600 block of North Woodlawn Drive. The incident was documented with a general information report.

*Agonal breathing is when someone who is not getting enough oxygen is gasping for air. It's a natural reflex that happens when the brain is not getting the oxygen it needs to survive. Agonal breathing is a sign that a person is near death.
