Sedalia Police Reports For January 3, 2022

Early Monday morning, Officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle they had observed strike a curb near South Kentucky Avenue and West Broadway Boulevard. During the course of the investigation, it was determined the driver was intoxicated and had a revoked driving status. Nathanael Aaron David, 32, of Sedalia, was arrested and transported to the Sedalia Police Department where he provided a breath sample that showed his BAC to be above 0.08. David was transported to the Pettis County Jail, where he was placed on a 24-hour hold. A request for charges of DWI (Prior Offender) and DWR have been submitted the prosecutor.

Sedalia Police responded to the 1400 block of West 5th Street in reference to a physical domestic disturbance Sunday evening. Upon arrival, the victim stated her husband hit her in the head with a coffee mug, causing her injuries. The victim was transported to BRHC by PCAD for her injuries. Troy Thomas Baker, 49, of Sedalia, was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail and placed on a 24-hour hold pending state charges for Domestic Assault in the 2nd Degree.

Saturday morning, Officers were dispatched to the 1500 block of South Harrison Avenue for a domestic disturbance. On arrival, there was yelling and screaming coming from inside. Officers made their way to the commotion and found three subjects holding a fourth down. The fourth subject was said to have been out of control, threw a butcher knife and a chair at his mother after destroying the house. Emilio A. Olivos, 19 of Sedalia, was arrested and transported to the BRHC Emergency Room to be deemed fit for confinement. Olivos was then transported to the Pettis County Jail, where he was placed on a 24 hour old for Domestic Assault in the 2nd Degree.

Last Tuesday evening, Officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle they observed failing to maintain its lane. During the course of the investigation, it was determined the driver's license was suspended and the driver was intoxicated. Ryan Neal Warden, 40, of Sedalia, was arrested and transported to the Sedalia Police Department where he provided a breath sample that showed his BAC to be above 0.08. Warden was transported to the Pettis County Jail, where he was booked and released. A request for the charges of DWI (Persistent Offender) and DWS has been submitted to the prosecutor.

Sedalia Police observed a vehicle driving southbound in the northbound lanes of Thompson Boulevard last Tuesday morning. Officers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. During the course of the investigation, it was determined the driver was intoxicated. Cory James Beasley, 27, of Leeton, was arrested and transported to the Sedalia Police Department where he provided a breath sample that showed his BAC to be above 0.08. Beasley was fingerprinted, given a UTT, and released to a sober driver.

Saturday morning, Officers observed a vehicle that was failing to maintain its lane while travelling eastbound on East Broadway Boulevard. A traffic stop was conducted at South Ingram Avenue and East Broadway Boulevard. During the course of the investigation, it was determined the driver was intoxicated. James LW Bennett Sr. 43, of Sedalia, was arrested and transported to the Sedalia Police Department where he provided a breath sample that showed his BAC to be above 0.08. Bennett was fingerprinted, given a UTT, and released.

Saturday morning, Officers responded to the 1600 block of West Main Street in reference to a 911 call hang up. Officers made contact with two subjects and ran their information through Dispatch. One subject was confirmed to have an active warrant for a felony charge of Driving While Revoked. Damaso A. Zalpa Cervantes, 39, of Sedalia, was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail, where he was booked on his warrant and given a cash or surety bond of $5,000.

Friday evening, Officers responded to the 1600 block of East Broadway Boulevard in reference to a medical emergency. PCAD was already on scene and had determined the subject was deceased. The Pettis County Coroner was contacted, as well as the Heckart Funeral home. There were no signs of foul play observed at the scene.

Sedalia Police responded to the 1000 block of East 12th Street for a report of a disturbance Saturday afternoon. Contact was made with a female subject who reported that another female subject came to her house to fight her daughter.

Friday afternoon, an Officer initiated a traffic stop on a car for expired registration near South Porter Avenue and East Broadway Boulevard. The Officer smelled the odor of marijuana and the occupants refused to exit the vehicle for a search. A search warrant was obtained for the car and it was seized. The occupants were released from the scene. State charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance and Obstructing a Government Operation were submitted on the driver and a charge of Obstructing a Government Operation was submitted on the passenger to the Pettis County Prosecutor's Office. The driver and the passenger were not named in the report.

Sedalia Police were dispatched to the McDonald's restaurant, 1601 South Limit Avenue Saturday morning for a report of a subject asleep behind the wheel of his vehicle. Dispatch provided a description of the vehicle and a license plate number. The vehicle was located, and contact was made with the driver. The driver stepped out of the vehicle, and performed poor on the Standard Field Sobriety Tests. David L. Matthews, 25, of Sedalia, was arrested and transported to the Sedalia Police Department for further investigation. There, he admitted to using drugs as well as drinking. Matthews was fingerprinted and given a court date for Driving While Intoxicated (Drugs). Matthews was then transported to the Pettis County Jail for three Failure to Appear warrants on original charges of Possession of Marijuana, Careless and Imprudent Driving, and Failure to Maintain Financial Responsibility. Total bond on the FTA warrants was set at $600 cash only.

Saturday morning, Officers were dispatched to the 1700 block of South Grand Avenue for a report of a violation of an order of protection. A male subject was located on the scene, in violation of an order of protection. Brandon J. Cooper, 32, of Sedalia, was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail, where he was placed on a 24 hour hold pending charges of Violating An Order of Protection.

Sedalia Police were dispatched to the 2300 block of West Main Street Friday night for a report of a domestic disturbance. After an on scene investigation, Officers arrested Leroy Aljenon Burks Jr., 44, of Sedalia. Burks was transported to the Pettis County Jail, where he was placed on a 24 hour hold pending charges for Domestic Assault in the 4th Degree.

Officers reported to the Wal Mart store, 3201 West Broadway Boulevard Friday evening for a report of theft. On scene investigation led to identifying a suspect who used a friend's EBT card without their permission to purchase groceries.

Sedalia Police spoke with Lisa Smith Saturday afternoon, who wished to report her husband as missing. He was last seen at around midnight the night before in the 1900 block of South Stewart Avenue. He has been entered into MULES/NCIC as missing.

On the evening of December 31st, Officers stopped a vehicle near the intersection of West 3rd Street and South Vermont Avenue for having expired registration. A computer check of the driver's information revealed he had an active and confirmed warrant issued by the Missouri Board of Probation and Parole for probation violation. Walter P. Nicholson II, 28, Homeless, was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail to be held without the possibility of bond.

Friday afternoon, an Officer was dispatched to the 800 block of Ruth Ann Drive in reference to a property damage report. Reed Goodbrake said that while his motorcycle was parked in the apartment parking lot, someone damaged his ignition.

Last Tuesday evening, an Officer was dispatched to a theft in the 700 block of North Quincy Avenue. Joseph D. Harrison reported a tool box and a wood router went missing, and believes a former roommate took them.

An Officer was dispatched to the Central Missouri Community Credit Union, 3120 West 10th Street Friday afternoon in reference to a hit and run accident. The suspect vehicle was driving through one of the drive through lanes when the top of their vehicle struck the overhang. The suspect then left the scene without making contact with anyone from the business.

Saturday morning, Officers were dispatched to the 700 block of West 11th Street in reference to a domestic disturbance. Once the disturbance was resolved, a computer check of one of the subjects showed he had an active warrant from Pettis County for Larceny. Tyrone E. Smith, 41, of Sedalia, was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail, where he was given a bond of $7,500 cash or surety.

Friday morning, Officers stopped a vehicle near the intersection of East 6th Street and South Brown Avenue after witnessing it fail to signal a turn. The vehicle was also displaying license plates not belonging to that vehicle. A computer check of the driver's information showed he did not have a valid license. Gabriel Sebastian Felipe, 27, of Sedalia, was arrested, booked and released from the Pettis County Jail pending the filing of formal charges for Operating a Motor Vehicle on the Highway Without a Valid License.

Last Tuesday evening, Officers responded by phone for a theft report that had occurred at the Motel 6, 3402 West Broadway Boulevard. Sammi Stegall reported that various items had been taken out of her car while it was parked there in the overnight hours the previous weekend. Stegall wished to pursue charges.

Sedalia Police initiated a traffic stop near North Hurley Avenue and East Saline Street Friday morning because the Officer recognized the driver as having a suspended license. A check through Dispatch confirmed the driver's license status was suspended. Osvaldo Sebastian, 19, of Sedalia, was arrested for Driving While Suspended and transported to the Pettis County Jail.

Early Friday morning, Officers conducted a vehicle stop near the intersection of West 11th Street and South Kentucky Avenue for the vehicle not having license plates. After an investigation, the driver was found to be intoxicated. Billy B. Brown, 34, of Sedalia, was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated (Prior Offender) and Driving While Suspended. The vehicle was towed from the scene and Brown was transported to the Pettis County Jail to be released to a sober driver.

A truck was stopped in the area of West Henry Street and North Ohio Avenue Friday morning after failing to maintain its lane several times, including driving northbound in the southbound lane. After an investigation, it was determined the driver was intoxicated. Merl Lee Tilley, 46, of Calico Rock. Arkansas, was placed under arrest for Driving While Intoxicated. Tilley was transported to the Sedalia Police Headquarters, processed, and then released to a sober person. Municipal charges of DWI and Improper Lane Usage are being requested.

Friday morning, Officers responded to the 600 block of West 4th Street in reference to a domestic incident. A primary aggressor could not be identified, and one of the suspects left willingly. No charges are being filed at this time.

Last Thursday evening, Officers initiated a traffic stop at West Main Street and Industrial Road on a vehicle driving without tail lights. The Officer made contact with the driver and occupant of the vehicle. The driver provided a false identity. The real identity of the driver was discovered, and their driving privileges were suspended. Marco A. Velez, 29, of Sedalia, was arrested for Driving While Suspended and Identity Theft. Velez was transported to the Pettis County Jail and placed on a 24 hour hold.

Last Thursday afternoon, Sedalia Police took a report of domestic violence in the 1600 block of South Park Avenue. Dwayne D Robinson reported the suspect attempted to strike them from their vehicle.

Thursday afternoon, Officers were dispatched to the 500 block of West 7th Street to make contact with a suspect who had a no bond felony Probation Violation warrant out of Benton County on original charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance. When Officers arrived, they made contact with the suspect and confirmed the warrant with Dispatch. After the warrant was confirmed, Officers took Danielle M Blake, 43, of Warsaw, into custody and transported her to the Pettis County Jail. While at the jail, a female corrections Officer searched the suspect in the bathroom. A short time later, Officers were informed that a baggie with methamphetamine inside it was found on the suspect. Officers took the baggie as evidence and sent it to the Missouri State Highway Patrol Lab for testing. Charges of Possession of a Dangerous Drug and Concealing a Controlled Substance in a County Jail are pending.

Last Thursday afternoon, Sedalia Police responded to the 300 block of West Broadway Boulevard for a subject check. Contact was made with the suspect. A computer query of his information revealed he had a warrant out of Boone County for Violation of A Court Order. Carl Lewis Hayes, 30, Homeless, was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail, where he is being held without bond.

A car was stopped in the area of Winchester Drive and West Broadway Boulevard because it had a defective tail light and no license plates. After an investigation, it was determined the driver was intoxicated by drugs. James Marlon Curd, 28, of Sedalia, was placed under arrest, taken to a hospital, and then to the Pettis County Jail, where he was booked in on a state charge of Driving While Intoxicated (Drugs), pending release to a sober person.
