The State Fair Community College Lady Roadrunners and Roadrunners basketball teams will participate in the Coaches vs. Cancer “Suits and Sneakers” nationwide fundraiser that unites The American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) in a common cause to save lives from cancer.

SFCC’s event will be held Wednesday, Jan. 25, when the Lady Roadrunners and Roadrunners take on Moberly Area Community College in the Fred E. Davis Center on the Sedalia campus. The women’s teams will tip off at 5:30 p.m. followed by the men’s game at 7:30 p.m.

Members of both coaching staffs will coach the game in suits and sneakers. The goal is to raise money to support childhood cancer research, services and awareness as well as promote cancer prevention efforts such as screening and early detection. The community is invited attend the games and participate in the Suits and Sneakers fundraiser.

“I did a lot of work with the NABC for Coaches vs. Cancer when my daughter was diagnosed in 2011,” said Roadrunners Basketball Head Coach Matt Brown. “I did different things in Kansas City with the coaches from the University of Kansas, the University of Missouri and Kansas State University. I went to Washington, D.C., to help pass legislation and raise funds for awareness, care, and treatment.

“I have another child who was diagnosed with cancer last year, so this event is very important to my family. Our daughter went to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, which is one of the leaders for cancer research. Our son goes to Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis for treatment. We will have more information about ways people can contribute to this worthy cause at the games.”
