A small team didn't stop Sacred Heart from showing up big in the standings at the Cole Camp High School math contest on Feb. 28.

Competing for the first time this season, each "mathlete" on the SHS freshman/sophomore team of six earned multiple medals. Sacred Heart placed in the top five 15 times in individual competition and took home two team medals.

Included among the 15 individual medals, Mariah Van Leer earned top freshman and Kate Carney earned top sophomore. In class competition, the three-member sophomore team took first place and the three-member freshman team took 2nd place.

"These students did an amazing job today," said Mrs. Kara Hill, SHS math instructor and math team sponsor. "They were up against five other schools and about 30 students per grade level. We're looking forward to seeing how things take shape at the Kaysinger Math Competition on March 8.

The math team has won 10 conference titles in the past 12 years.
