Songs I Have Listened To On Repeat For Hours At A Time, Over and Over

I think if you've read this little space of the internet before, you probably know I'm a music nerd.  It's part of the reason why I have the job I do.And I've liked all kinds of music from all kinds of different genres over the years. Admittedly I don't know much about like, death metal (unless you count Dethklok) or a lot about modern country music, but hey.  Everybody has their thing, you know?

So I thought I was a freakjob for years and years because when I find a song that I really like, I have to listen to it over and over again on repeat.  I've done this since I "found" music, back in the middle school days.  But now, if I go on YouTube, I can see the fine people of the internet agree with me that this is essential.  I see hour long, five hour long, sometimes even twenty four hour long loops of the same song over and over again on YouTube videos.  And that makes it a little easier on people like me, sure. I'm not the only one that does this!  So anyway, let's get to the actual music.  Here are some of the songs that I surely would have annoyed anyone around me with over the years by repeating them over and over.   In no particular order, chronologically or favorite, whatever.

1.  The Beatles - I'll Be On My Way.

They never recorded this song themselves, they gave it away to another Liverpool group. I wanna say it was Billy J Kramer and the Dakotas, but I can't remember.  I just remember having this in my Brand New First CD Player on repeat over and over again, consoling my little teenage broken heart.

2.  Joanna Newsom - Peach, Plum, Pear.

Joanna Newsom is one of the most underrated, underappreciated singers/songwriters of the world, I think.  She started out primarily on the harp but she also plays the piano.  She did one of the most perfect albums of all time, the three disk Have One On Me. You should check it out if you want to try something a little different.

3.  EXO - Obsession.

Don't worry, I'm not cheating on BTS.  I was watching a Netflix series called Busted! that has Sehun of EXO in it's cast. I liked him instantly (it took him five hours to solve that Rubik's Cube, but dammit, HE DID IT) and decided to look them up this past Sunday.  And, there it is, bam.  This song is stuck in my head constantly over the last few days. I now remember I had liked another EXO song, "The Eve", but I don't know much about them. I don't have time to find out anything about them, because I have this song on repeat. I have no idea what's happening in this video, by the way.  Kinda scary. I think someone said they were fighting their evil clones?  No idea.  I would also prefer that Kai wear a shirt instead of a crop top, but.. that's not my fashion decision to make.

4.  The Avett Brothers - Die Die Die.

I have loved the Avett boys for years.  I have seen them live three times. I would gladly go to their next show in Missouri, which will be next summer.  I hope there's a new record by then. They're just so much fun to sing along to, while not being devoid of meaning.  And who doesn't love a properly wielded banjo?

5.  Lil Wayne - I Feel Like Dying.

I know, this one seems to come out of left field. And the thing is, I don't know any other songs by him.  And I don't condone drug usage like this.  I don't know how I found this song, but I did and I kept it. It's not something I'm always listening to, but... it got to me.

6.  David Bowie - Rebel Rebel.

This might be my favorite David Bowie song of all time.  Who can resist that guitar part? No one that's human and has the ability to hear. In My Humble Opinion, That is.

7.  The Magnetic Fields - I Thought You Were My Boyfriend.

I love Steven Merritt, even if he is kind of dark and brooding. I had a pretty big Magnetic Fields phase right after college. I love that this is so kind of upbeat and discoesque, but it's such a sad lyric.

8.  Dolly Parton - Jolene.

I periodically love female country music soloists.  Dolly, Sarah Harmer, Miranda Lambert, Loretta Lynn, Kacey Musgraves, Gillian Welch, you know. I remember a friend of mine made me a mix cd with this on it (remember when we did that?) and I was listening on my CD walkman on the campus of what is now UCM.  It was a cold fall day, and the wind kicked up right at the end when she goes for the last "Joleeeeeeene" and I was somehow hooked.

9.  The Lonely Island - Santana DVX.

I had a pretty hard Lonely Island phase, and I still love their goofy humor. You probably remember them as the guys who did "Lazy Sunday" on SNL.  This is from their first record, Incredibad. This one is not safe for work or for kids, there are alot of swears.  I particularly enjoy Jorma's part, in particular the line, "He makes his guitar weep/but makes his champagne cry".  And yeah, it's kind of making fun of Santana, but it's also doing it by praising the hell out of him.

10.  Robots In Disguise - Turn It Up.

Robots in Disguise was a British duo doing some electro poppish stuff back in the day.They broke up about...2011 I think? So it's kinda hard to find a good, clear version of the video for this one. It's old, it wasn't very popular out of England, etc. I had a few of their records and they were a lot of fun. I think one of them moved to Germany.  Anyway, the song is about music and different songs/albums that have inspired them.
