I've talked about it on the air before, there are a few songs out there that we just listen to and go along with without ever questioning it.  But when you pay attention..... the lyrics can kind of make you do a double take.

Sure, you remember how kind of creepy "Every Breath You Take"  by The Police is.  The dude is basically stalking the lady, watching her all dang day.  Eugh. And "One Way or Another" by Blondie? High level stalking.  She's outside your house.  She's behind you at the supermarket.

But there are a few more that maybe aren't so obvious.

I don't know how many times I've heard this song, and never once paid a huge amount of attention to the lyrics, particularly at the beginning. It was just a rockin' bop, you know? But look at this.

Well, I'm the friendly stranger in the black sedan / Oh, won't you hop inside my car? / I got pictures, candy, I'm a lovable man / I'd like to take you to the nearest star.

WEE WOO WEE WOO Stranger Danger, my friend.  Why are you offering candy from the back seat of a car?! Dude, that's just not cool on any level. Like, the only way that could be worse is if it was a van down by the river.

And I've talked about this song, too.

Take your baby by the hair / And pull her close and there, there, there / And take your baby by the ears / And play upon her darkest fears.

Um.... no? Please don't do that? Don't yank on my hair and my ears and somehow emotionally manipulate me!  This is supposed to be happy, upbeat song, my dude.

I know some of you might come for me for this one.  But... it's a little weird.

But I knew love before I left my nursery
Left alone with big fat Fanny
She was such a naughty nanny
Heap big woman, you made a bad boy out of me.

Before you left your NURSERY!? Basically, this nanny was like... a pedophile.  What on earth is happening in life anymore.  I didn't even think about it. I just heard the lyrics and thought, oh, well he's saying that he likes a bigger lady sometimes.  WRONG.

And the thing is, there are more.  So many more.  It just stuns me sometimes that I didn't even notice it! What are some of your favorite songs that make you go, "Okay, What are they saying?!"

Questionably yours,

Behka
