On Monday around 11 a.m., Sedalia Police responded to a report of an active shooter at 1204 South Washington.

Officers set up a perimeter around the residence, then made contact with those inside the house.

They were asked to step outside so the scene could be secured.

As they exited the residence, two large dogs ran out of the house and charged at an officer who was in the street.

Both dogs attacked the officer, biting him several times.

The officer shot one of the dogs, which stopped the attack. That dog did not survive.

The other dog was eventually secured back inside the residence and later taken away by Animal Services for quarantine.

Police "will not file charges against the owners for the dogs attacking the officer. The dogs ran out when the owners were coming out and it was an unfortunate incident," SPD said.

An investigation of the scene determined that an active shooter incident did not occur, but someone had shot the house at 1204 South Washington, according to a report released by SPD at 1:51 p.m.

An investigation is under way.

The officer who was attacked by the dogs was treated for his injuries.
