Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive is Saturday

The 25th annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive will be taking place on Saturday, May 13.

"It's a great drive. It brings in a lot of food," said Darren White with The Food Bank. "Last year we collected close to 15,000 pounds of food. It goes out into the community. Everything stays local in Pettis County."

"It's very easy, " said Julie Taylor with the Sedalia Post Office. "All you have to do is open up your bag, put your food in it, sit it by your mailbox and either your mail carrier -or we have volunteers that help, too - will come around and pick it up."

In addition to non-perishable food items, monetary donations will also be collected for The Food Bank. "With every dollar (collected) The Food Bank is able to purchase $21 worth of groceries," said White. "We are encouraging folks, if they can, to donate $25 in honor of the 25th year. And that equates to $525 that we're able to purchase groceries with."

Donation bags and remit envelopes for cash donations are being delivered to postal customers this week. Stamp Out Hunger donation bags will be green this year.

The Food Bank's goal for the 2017 Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive is 15,000 pounds of food and $3,000 in monetary donations.
