A Sweet Springs man was injured in a one-car accident that occurred Monday night in Pettis County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that a northbound 2005 Ford Freestyle, driven by 20-year-old Theresa F. Cox of Sweet Springs, was on US 65, north of Smelser Road around 9:25 p.m., when the Ford experienced a defect, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle. The Freestyle traveled off the left side of the roadway and through the median, across the southbound lanes and came to rest off the roadway in a field.

A passenger in the Ford, 22-year-old Chance Miles, also of Sweet Springs, suffered minor injuries and was transported to Bothwell Regional Health Center by PCAD. He was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, according to the report.
