A CD by the Peter Green Splinter Group, featuring former Fleetwood Mac guitarist Peter Green, which was previously only sold at live shows will now see the light of day as a standard release.

Producers of the upcoming Jimi Hendrix biopic say they never planned on using original songs from the guitarist, because the movie will be set before hits like ‘Purple Haze’ and ‘The Wind Cries Mary’ were released. ‘All Is By My Side,’ starring Andre Benjamiin (aka Andre 3000 of the hip-hop group Outkast) may be ready for the 2013 Sundance Festival.

One of my favorite blues festivals will be held this Saturday (June 30): the Bear Creek Blues Festival in Slater, Missouri. This year's show is even more special because it's an "all divas" show. A man once said that the blues were nothing but a man singing about a woman who's done him wrong.  That's a pretty simplistic view of the blues.  I say the blues are songs about life, and who hasn't had the blues over having no chocolate in the house or being hit in the head with a ball.  This video makes me laugh, check it out.

A documentary that looks at the history of the blues through someone who saw its birth will soon be released on DVD. ‘Honeyboy and the History of the Blues‘ looks at the career of David ‘Honeyboy’ Edwards, who passed away in Chicago on August 29, 2011 at the age of 96.

Pete Cosey, who played guitar on some of the most controversial albums ever made by Rock and Roll Hall of Famers Muddy Waters and Howlin’ Wolf, has died at age 68 of unknown causes.

As you probably know, I am a huge blues music fan. On Saturday, June 2, the Sedalia Lions Club have their Blues Cruise and BBQ Festival.  Rather than talk about the great food and live music, I'd like to talk more about why this event is so important to our community.
