Baby Driver isn’t the first Edgar Wright film to spur talk of a sequel, but it is the first time that the director has been open to making a follow-up to one of his features. Wright previously revealed that Sony had asked him to consider a sequel to his wonderful action-musical, and according to a new interview, he’s close to signing a deal with the studio to at least write the screenplay for Baby Driver 2. He also has some thoughts on the recent sexual misconduct allegations against Kevin Spacey, who played the villain in the first film.

I probably don’t need to tell you that Baby Driver is a good movie; odds are you’ve seen it in theaters - maybe more than once - and might even own have a copy of the soundtrack downloaded on your phone. As good as Baby Driver The Movie might be, Baby Driver The Soundtrack is even better, with a ton of really great songs from artists as diverse as Simon & Garfunkel, Blur, and Martha and the Vandellas. And until now, one of the better production stories has been all the hard work Edgar Wright and company put into securing the rights for each of these tracks.

Edgar Wright’s Baby Driver is already the director’s most successful film to date, with a $76 million worldwide take so far on a budget of $34 million. But the movie has yet to open in a bunch of countries, including Germany, Brazil, Japan, and more (it only just had its Australian premiere, courtesy of George Miller). So, to get more bods in theater seats, Universal has released the entire opening bank heist and car chase scene from the movie on YouTube. Even if you’ve already seen the movie, you gotta watch this again. And turn your volume up.

It wasn’t so long ago that Edgar Wright voiced some misgivings about the business of sequels, saying “I guess I would rather be telling new stories than revisiting old ones.” But in that very same interview, he emphasized that he has no hard-and-fast rules for how he chooses projects, and that if reviving an established property felt natural and creatively productive, he wouldn’t rule out the possibility. He batted around the idea of following up on cop-parody Hot Fuzz back then, and now today, he’s reignited fan murmurs of an entry into sequeldom with Baby Driver.
