Swedish garage-rockers The Hives returned on Friday (May 17) with their first new song in four years, the shuffling reinstatement "I'm Alive."

An invigorating charge led by singer Howlin' Pelle Almqvist, this particular strain of post-punk revivalism hasn't been heard since the Hives lent one-off tune "Blood Red Moon" to a film soundtrack in 2015. The band's last studio album Lex Hives came out seven years ago. Listen to "I'm Alive" down toward the bottom of this post.

"'I'm Alive' is a song about crawling up from under a rock and obliterating all resistance that sounds like crawling up from under a rock and obliterating all resistance because it is a band crawling up from under a rock and obliterating all resistance," Almqvist obtusely offered in a statement published in NME. "Use it in your own life to help you obliterate your own resistance!"

The new song will be included on a limited edition, double A-side 7" record from the Hives, which will be available June 28 via Jack White's Third Man Records. A new Hives album is reportedly due sometime in the next year.
