It's today! It's finally Veteran's Day.  I'm sure there are a few things you'll want to know - things about the parade, what's open and closed, and I'll be happy to give you quick heads up right here.

First of all, the actual celebrations.  The big Veteran's Day Ceremony will be early this morning, 7:00 a.m. at the Smith Cotton High School.   The parade is later on today.  Smith-Cotton High School Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) and all local veterans organizations will have the Veterans Day Parade  at 3:00 p.m. in downtown Sedalia. One thing I thought was neat is this part:  National Guard trucks will be available to transport veterans who are unable to walk or just want a ride to the parade. The trucks will be located at Sixth Street and Ohio Avenue at 2:30 p.m. on the day of the parade.

Now, there are some closures, as well.  I found a few big ones that you'll need to be aware of.  The City of Sedalia will observe the Veterans Day holiday, meaning the trash won't get picked up that day.  But everything will be back to normal come Monday, in regards to pickup, that is. All State Fair Community College campus locations (Sedalia, Boonville, Clinton, Eldon, Lake of the Ozarks, Warsaw, and Whiteman Air Force Base) will close in observance of Veteran's Day.  So if you need to be on campus, well, you'll just have to wait, sorry.  Also, Sedalia 200 is having an early out today - so all the kiddos should be out of school in plenty of time for the parade.

One thing I found that was really neat was this little notice. Sedalia Parks & Rec is allowing Vets and active military to visit the Heckart Community Center for free on Friday.  Of course, you know the drill - valid military or veteran's ID must be presented.  They'll be open from 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Veteran's Day.

What else should I add to the events happening today?  Let me know in the comments what your group, organization, church, or work is doing to honor our Veterans today!

Celebratingly yours,
Behka
