It takes a lot to be designated the most redneck town. The criteria is high but winning the title doesn't necessarily bring many benefits.

For most towns to win a "Most Redneck Town" award there's a few things that usually fall into place-

  • Gun stores per capita and in the area
  • Low high school graduation rate
  • More bars than gas stations and grocery stores
  • High rate of fishing/bait shops
  • Mobile home parks outnumber public parks

The official definition according to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary is:

“A white person who lives in a small town or in the country especially in the southern U.S., who typically has a working-class job, and who is seen by others as being uneducated and having opinions and attitudes that are offensive.”

I guess you'd have to say the people that live in these redneck towns would make it a proper Rednecktopia if they chew, fish, hunt, and shoot stuff up.

Here's some of the responses that we received on the KIX 105.7 Facebook page after posting the question-"What's the most redneck town in Missouri?":

Agnes L.R. - Hughesville We have tractors for lawn ornaments

Tim F. - The whole state of MO. has rednecks everywhere

And this listener had quite the list. -

Monica R.D. - Macon, Marceline, Sumner, Brookfield, New Cambria, Callao, Exello, Clarence, Shelbyville, Shelbina, Kirksville, Mendon, Keytesville, Madison, Perry, Paris, Holiday, Salisbury, Brunswick, Carrollton, Waverly,Norborne, Hardin, Richmond, Dover, Lexington. The list goes on.

I noticed with the listing of these towns, they're pretty much north of Pettis County. Think she's biased?

Other towns included in the answers we received are Urich, Tightwad, Windsor, Brownington, and Climax Springs. There were a few more listed  I'm not sure we have a clear cut winner of the title "Most Redneck Town in Missouri". What do you think?

I like Kathy S.P.'s question to the answer. I guess this is how we should look at it - How many of the ones who answered consider themselves a redneck? Just curious.
