Until 2018, Woody Allen had released at least one new film every single year since 1981. His streak ended last year, when Amazon decided not to release A Rainy Day in New York, the first movie Allen made for the company under a four-film deal signed in 2017.

Amazon hasn’t moved forward with any of the other three films they contracted Allen for as well. That’s led to a lawsuit between Allen and Amazon — but in the meantime, the film is scheduled to open overseas in certain countries. And today, Woody Allen released the trailer for the film on his Facebook page:

It does indeed look like a late-era Woody Allen movie, all jaunty one-liners and jazzy music, albeit one from another dimension where the accusations of sexual abuse made against him by his adopted daughter Dylan Farrow, did not garner renewed scrutiny in light of the #MeToo movement. Morally, you can’t blame Amazon for not wanting to be in the Woody Allen business. (Similarly, several of the film’s cast members, including Timothee Chalamet and Griffin Newman, have either said they regret working with Allen or have promised to donate their salaries from the film to charities that work with victims of sexual assault.) Legally, however, is another story, and Allen may well have a case.

A Rainy Day in New York opens in France in September and then in other European countries in October. At present, there is no U.S. release date.
