One man was killed and another two injured in a bizarre accident that occurred in Camden County on Wednesday night.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, one man exited his vehicle on Highway Z, just south of Coffman Bend Drive at 9:48 p.m., when another man stopped and exited his vehicle to try and help the first man. Yet another man saw the first two and also stopped his vehicle in an attempt to help, when a southbound 1998 Ford F-150, driven by 55-year-old Kevin J. Manns of Climax Springs, struck all three men on the roadway.

The crash killed 67-year-old Phillip C. Johnston of Climax Springs. He was pronounced dead at the scene at by Medical Examiner Crystal Lloyd at 10:52 p.m. The body was taken to the Allee Holman-Howe Funeral Home.

43-year-old Sean E. Johnston and 49-year-old Gerald M. Beck, both of Climax Springs, both suffered serious injuries and were transported to Lake Regional Hospital.

The pickup had minor damage.
