Patriot Day, a day of remembrance designed to recognize the men and women, military personnel and first responders who lost their lives during the worst terrorist attack on American soil, will be observed Friday,  Sept. 11 at the University of Central Missouri.

Members of the local community are invited to attend the ceremony at UCM, near the flagpole at quadrangle.

Activities are being coordinated by the Office of Military and Veteran Services, and are open to all university faculty, staff, students, alumni and others who are interested.

This an annual ceremony that takes place at UCM on the anniversary of the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001.

Area first responders will be there to honor the many men and women who perished on that day in Manhattan, New York, where two hijacked airplanes struck the World Trade Center’s twin towers; in Arlington County, Virginia, where an airplane crashed into the U.S. Pentagon; and in a field in Stony Creek Township, Pennsylvania, where passengers perished in a crash after attempting to stop hijackers from taking over their flight.
