UCM Outlines COVID-19 Prevention Measures for Fall Semester

The University of Central Missouri has outlined how they'll keep students, staff, faculty, guests and the greater UCM community safe this fall as students return to campus. The measures include masks, social distancing, capacity limits and making all dorm accommodations single.

Face masks will be required to be worn by everyone on campus including students, faculty, staff, visitors and vendors. Face masks will be required in classrooms, in areas open to the public, at group events, gatherings and meetings and outside where physical distancing cannot be required. Those with health issues who would like to be exempt from the rule can contact human resources if you're an employee, and students should contact the Office of Accessibility Services. Face masks will be required by the University until further notice, regardless of whether Johnson County or Jackson County has a mask requirement.

The University of Central Missouri expects that members of the UCM Community and guests will adhere to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's physical distancing guidelines. Additionally, classrooms around the University are being set up to promote easy social distancing. Capacity limits will be set for gatherings and events, and the University will use invitation and reservation systems to monitor and control capacity limits whenever possible. Additionally UCM will continue their enhanced cleaning protocols. UCM expects students, staff and faculty to self monitor for symptoms consistent with COVID-19 and follow CDC guidelines on self-isolation and testing if symptomatic.

Finally, all residence hall rooms will be single occupancy this year. Additionally, freshman and sophomores who live within 65 miles of UCM may request an exemption from living in campus residence halls provided they are living with a parent, grandparent or guardian. This exemption was previously set at 50 miles from campus. Additional measures to keep UCM students and staff safe will be implemented when students are moving back to campus.
