Union Pacific (UP) Railroad has notified the City of Sedalia that beginning on Oct. 25 and continuing through Oct. 26, UP will be making improvements to the rail crossings at street intersections from the east Sedalia city limits to North Ohio Ave.

Work is scheduled overnight between 1:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. each day as detailed in the list below. Travelers will need to plan alternate routes as the crossings will be closed to traffic during the planned construction period at each of the crossings:

North Marshall from 1:30 to 8:30 a.m., on Monday, Oct. 25
North Emmet from 1:30 to 8:30 a.m., on Monday, Oct. 25
North Ohio from 1:30 to 8:30 a.m., on Tuesday, Oct. 26

Overnight, Monday, Oct 25, the nearest open intersections to North Marshall Avenue and North Emmet Avenue crossing over the UPRR rail line will be North Harding Avenue to the east and North Engineer Avenue to the west. Overnight, Tuesday, Oct 26, the nearest open intersection and bridge to North Ohio Ave. crossing over the UPRR rail line will be the Washington Avenue Bridge to the east and North Moniteau Avenue to the west.

The crossing improvement work is generally described as removal of crossing boards, including ties, and replacement of those boards and ties with surfacing improvements also being made. There will be approximately a one-week period from crossing improvement until new asphalt is in place at each of crossings. During that period, a temporary surfacing solution will allow for the roadway to be open to the public.

Completion of the work is dependent on track availability to the work crew and, as such, work may be delayed to allow trains to pass safely through the work zones resulting in a slight delay in the scheduled re-opening time of 8:30 a.m.

“We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause as UP works to improve their rail crossings within Sedalia,” a press release stated.
