A very high fire danger exists for eastern Kansas and western Missouri today and then again on Saturday due to dry conditions combined with gusty winds. Therefore, it is encouraged to avoid outdoor burning, to properly extinguish cigarette butts, and use caution with any open flames, such as when grilling or barbecuing.

The next chance for precipitation looks to be early next week. Monday evening the National Weather Service is forecasting a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms.

Almost the entire state of Missouri has been forecasted as a fire danger. With West Central and an area in Northeast Missouri falling into the category of Very HIgh Risk, the rest of the state is either classified as a High or Moderate risk.

According to the National Park Service, U.S. Department of the Interior, "Fire Danger is a description of the combination of both constant and variable factors that affect the initiation, spread, and difficulty to control a wildfire on an area."
