Wally’s Is Bringing Their Great American Road Trip to Kansas City
You may ask just what is Wally's and why are they coming to Kansas City. Well, Wally's is a mega-travel stop that currently operates two kitschy family-oriented travel centers. One is located on Interstate 55 in Pontiac, Illinois about two hours outside of Chicago. The other is located on Interstate 44 in Fenton, Missouri near St. Louis.

They recently announced on Facebook that their next location will be located just off Interstate 70 in or near Kansas City. According to a report from KMBC the new travel center will be near Interstate 70 and Noland Road. According to KMBC the store will be 50,000 square feet and will feature 80 fuel pumps, 20 electric vehicle charging stations, and large bathrooms.
Wally's is very similar to Buc-ee's, yaknow the incredibly popular kitschy travel centers founded in Texas. Wally's tagline is "Home of the Grea American Road Trip" and their stores tend to play up a somewhat retro theme including a cast of Hanna-Barbera-inspired animals including the chain's mascot Wally Bear.
Wally's promises "Great service, tasty food, clean restrooms and unexpected necessities. More specifically Wally's has almost everything you'd expect a kitschy travel center to have. Sweet treats, a carving station, almost any kind of soft drink you could want, clean bathrooms, themed t-shirts, hats, and other Wally's logoed items and more. I stopped at the one in Pontiac a year ago and reviewed it. You can read that article here.
KMBC says construction on the new store is expected to begin in the summer of 2024.
