I don't know about you guys, but the Sedalia Christmas Parade was  big deal to me every year as a kid.

Every year, we'd look forward to that first weekend in December.  Mom and I would bundle up in our long underwear and head over to Papa Jake's.  Mom would get me some donut holes and a hot chocolate and we'd share them while watching the parade (our usual spot was right around the Hotel Bothwell).  My sister and my Dad would go and pick out a Christmas Tree from one of the lots around town (probably from one of the Optimist groups) while we were at the Parade.  They'd get it set up and have all the decorations out, and then when Mom and I got back, we'd all decorate the tree together.

And every year you'd marvel as a kid at all the floats, the bands, the candy... and of course Santa.  Although you'd try to leave as the horses were coming through.  Believe it or not, though, the parade doesn't magically fall into place every year.  While the Christmas Spirit is strong, it can't help much with paperwork or traffic.

That's where you come in!  The Sedalia Chamber of Commerce is looking for volunteers to help with this year's Christmas Parade.   I reached out to the volunteer coordinator, Chloe, and here's what she said they need. It's nothing too hard or nothing that'll take up too much of your time.

We are needing people to pass out candy bags and stickers prior to the parade starting. That will probably be an hour task. We are needing judges for the floats and help with the lineup. Volunteers will need to be in their volunteered positions @ 4:30 p.m.

So if that sounds like something you'd like to do, you can call, 660-826-2222, stop by or email if you want more details or if you want to sign up.   The address of the office is 600 East Third Street, and you can email at: chloe@sedaliachamber.com.

I'm not saying it'll make Santa forget that time you left your sister's curling iron in her hair too long and burned that chunk of her hair off, but.... it'll help.

Paradingly yours,

Behka
