Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder and the Red Hot Chili Peppers performed a cover of Prince anthem “Purple Rain” during a fundraiser concert over the weekend.

The rendition was part of the Chili Peppers’ encore at the annual Silverlake Conservatory of Music show in Los Angeles, and was delivered alongside their take on Jimi Hendrix’s version of “All Along the Watchtower.”

You can watch the “Purple Rain” cover around 45 minutes and 15 seconds into the video below:

The concert, which included eight-song sets from the Chili Peppers and Vedder, also featured students from the conservatory, which bassist Flea co-founded in 2001 with the aim of encouraging young musical talent.

Speaking shortly after Prince’s death in 2016, Vedder said, “All of us on this stage can tell you: That guy loved music so damn much. He never stopped playing, never stopped writing, never stopped recording, never stopped creating.” Describing him as “an intense cat,” he added, “People know him from the ways he looked, and the different ways he looked, and different things he said – a lot of incredible things to remember him by. But I gotta tell you, you just saw some great guitar playing. Prince was probably the greatest guitar player we’ve ever seen.”

In 1992, Prince made use of a handwritten tribute from Chili Peppers frontman Anthony Kiedis, who had previously been invited to hear a preview version of Diamonds and Pearls and called it “the greatest set of tunes I’ve heard.” In his tribute, Kiedis wrote, “Prince is a funky volcano, sonicly erupting color and emotion into a world that is in need of a sacred connection between heart, music and spirit. Now get off.” It appeared in the programs for the ensuing tour.
