If you are a fan of the NFL and hard nose football, then you know what has happened this weekend and the weeks before.  Apparently, if you sack the quarterback, you will get called for a penalty for ruffing the passer.  I will explain.

Last night, the Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones, sacked Raiders QB Derek Carr.  He stripped him of the football.  He was flagged with a roughing the passer penalty.  You can decide for yourself.   The previous day, Tom Brady was sacked by the Atlanta Falcons DT Grady Jarrett on a totally legal sack.  The only person in the game who thought it was a roughing the passer was referee Jerome Boger.

Needless to say, the NFL is coming under fire for these overreactions. In the wake of Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa's concussion, the league has not given officials a directive to emphasize roughing calls.  But it sure seems like this is going on.  And if you are frustrated with this like so many, the NFL plans to discuss roughing-the-passer penalties amid outrage over two disputed calls in Week 5, a person with direct knowledge of the matter told The Associated Press.  You can read that article HERE.

Now if Patrick Mahomes gets hit, we will all be up in arms and just pray he doesn't get hurt.  And the QB should be protected, but it is football.  Guys are going to get hit, and I for one am thrilled that this rule will be looked at.  Those two penalties were absolutely crap.  And it may have affected the results of the game.  Let's hope Mahomes isn't put in this situation.  If it is decided that every sack will be reviewed to ensure that it was a legal play, I am for it.  The NFL needs to improve their officiating and do it quickly.  When people are talking more about NFL officiating, as opposed to the game on the field, that is a problem.  Fix it!
