Since winter slipped in on us last week, (December 21) I figured it might be a good idea to make sure you're prepared for the next few months of what we could see in Missouri. If you've been in the Show-Me State for any winters past, you know we can get get some nasty stuff weather-wise. The last thing we want is to be stranded so let's see if we can get you ready for what could be.

It's not that hard to put together a kit of items to keep in your vehicle. Most of the items that you should have may already be in your garage or around the house. Just grab a box and start collecting items for any roadside emergencies.

First off make sure you have a blanket. One of the worst things that can happen is sitting on the side of the road with a stalled vehicle on a cold winter day or night with no heat. Along with the blanket you might want to throw in some hand warmers.

A can of Fix-A-Flat. Amazing how much of a difference it can make having a can of this stuff to help you get down the road so you can get that flat tire repaired.

A bag of kitty litter. No this isn't for little Muffin if she has a mistake on the way to Grandma's house. This is to help your vehicle get traction if you get stuck.

Make sure you have a flashlight, and keep an extra pack of batteries in the box, too. While you're at it, throw in a couple protein bars/candy bars. Maybe a couple bottles of water, too.

Speaking of batteries, don't forget the jumper cables!

Last but not least, a phone charger. You may be in a situation that your car is till running but you can't go anywhere due to the ice and/or snow. You want to make sure you have a charge in your phone to summon help.

You may a have a few personal items you want to also throw into the box. This will at least help you get through another Missouri winter.
