WWII Vet Wants Birthday Cards for His 100th Birthday

A World War II veteran wants 100 birthday cards for his 100 birthday. This according to a story from KMBC TV/CNN and the Brookdale Watauga Facebook page.

Meet veteran James South who proudly served in World War II. These days the 99 year old calls Brookdale Senior Living in the suburbs of Fort Worth home and wants one thing for his birthday. You can see it in the picture above, or read it below:

“Hello! My name is James South and I am a proud WWII veteran! I will be turning 100 on October 7th, 2019. I would like to receive 100 birthday cards. Please mail to: 5800 North Park Dr., Watauga, TX 76148. Thank you!”

KMBC TV/CNN uncovered a little more about Mr. South as well. He's a native of North East Texas. Joined the army and deployed to Normandy seven days after D-Day. He has one son and was married to his sweetheart for 55 years until her passing in 2001.

Mr. South only recently moved into the senior living facility. He was independent for years and has occupied his time in retirement by woodworking, working in his garden, playing golf and going to church. This according to what Mr. South's son Jim told the television station.

And don't worry about Mr. South spending his birthday alone. His son Jim has that covered as well. Mr South will spend time with his family, enjoy chicken fried steak and catfish from his favorite restaurants and playing a round of golf. He'd also like those 100 birthday cards.

Send those cards. Mr. South is planning on hanging them up on his wall. And as the nephew of an uncle who did the same thing at his senior living home, I can tell you seeing those well wishes can brighten a day significantly.
