Higher Power are a band from Leeds, England, the U.K.'s hardcore capital. Ever since it fostered the rise of the Mekons and Gang of Four nearly four decades ago, the scene has stuck to its militant, no-BS values (which live on particularly powerfully in the work of straight-edge crew Violent Reaction and beatdown tricksters the Flex, two of Leeds' most noteworthy musical exports as of late). That said, for this five-piece, seething only gets you so far.

Higher Power — who got their name from a song by the New York hardcore crew Subzero — would rather let out scream after giddy primal scream, turning their rage into drop-D-tuned revelry that occasionally borders on silliness, thanks to frontman Jimmy Wizard's hyper-animated, Perry Farrell-esque yelps. Between their '90s-indebted sound (a white-hot merger of grunge, hardcore and funk-metal à la Living Colour) and their ascendance as a touring act (the band is currently opening for Basement, the U.K.'s keystone pop-punk group), they're bound to get a lot of comparisons to Turnstile, and stand poised to follow a similar trajectory.

This May — nearly two years after their breakout 7" Space to Breathe — Higher Power will release their debut LP, Soul Structure. Ahead of its release, the band has dropped a clip for the album's first Jane's Addiction-y single, "Can't Relate." The new song — as well as an LP B-side — will appear on their Can't Relate promo cassette, which drops today. Check out the video below, and scroll down for the album artwork, track list and tour dates.

Higher Power will release their debut album, Soul Structure, on May 19 via Flatspot / Venn. Get the band's Can't Relate promo cassette here.
