Imagine standing around in the front of your house in your yard when from a distance you see something in the air. It starts to get closer and you finally make it out. A drone...and what is it carrying? Oh wow, it's your Girl Scout cookie order! Cookies from heaven!

You've seen many companies and organizations toying with the possibility of having items delivered by drones. Pizza, your UPS delivery, the list goes on and on, but who would have thought of having Girl Scout cookies delivered this way?

Faced with pandemic restrictions the Girl Scouts of Christiansburg, Virginia, came up with a unique way to make sure the orders were filled and the cookies were delivered.

In a story from usatoday.com:

"Wing, a subsidiary of Google’s parent company Alphabet Inc., reached out to the Girl Scouts of Virginia Skyline about making cookie drops to help boost cookie sales."

So it wasn't the young girls in uniform but a drone making everybody happy by helping with the fulfillment of orders. The story from usatoday.com goes on to say that orders were down about 50% due to the coronavirus pandemic. This was even with selling the cookies in the usual stands in front of retail stores.

It was back in March of last year when the Girl Scout's organization "suspended door-to-door sales and in-person cookie booths because of the spread of COVID-19 and took the 2020 cookie season online.

Locally, different girl scouts have been set up at various locations. The usatoday.com report also says the 2021 cookie sales are also available another way:

Along with online sales and sales through "virtual cookie booths" on social media.
