The Bothwell Board of Trustees elected officers and welcomed a new member at its June meeting.
Stafford Swearingen, Sedalia, was elected to his first term as board chair. He has served on the board since 2019 and was previously vice chair; he will continue his role as the liaison to the Bothwell Foundation board. Swearingen replaces Cam Jennings, who served as chair for the past three years and remains on the board.

Deidre Esquivel was elected as board vice chair. Esquivel, Sedalia, is Senior Accounting Officer at Bristol Care, Inc. and was appointed to the board in 2020.
Sedalia Mayor John Kehde was elected board secretary/treasurer. Kehde has served on the board since 2018 when his position and the City Administrator position were added as board seats.

The board welcomed new member Dr. Paul Bassett who is a physician at the Sedalia VA Clinic. Bassett received his medical degree from the University of Kansas in 2003 and completed a four-year combined residency in internal medicine and pediatrics in 2007. He received a law degree from the University of Kansas in 1989 and a bachelor’s degree in Philosophy from Olivet Nazarene College in Kankakee, Illinois.

Bassett and his wife, Michelle, have lived in Sedalia since 2013 with their daughter Chloe. Michelle is a Registered Nurse and owns Sedalia Aesthetics, a medical spa. Bassett said he is pleased he gets to serve on the board.

“I want to help maintain the high quality, local health care system that has been developed,” he said.

Other board members include Joyce Foster and Kelvin Shaw, Sedalia city administrator. Members are appointed by the mayor of Sedalia and approved by City Council. The Bothwell Board of Trustees meets at 5:30 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday of each month at Bothwell Regional Health Center.
