Do You Own A NICB 'Hot Wheels' Vehicle?

I don't know about you, but I always enjoyed a Hot Wheel.Of course, when I think of a Hot Wheel, I think of a little toy car that you beg your Mom for in the clearance aisle at the store. But, turns out, it also means something else.

Apparently, the most stolen cars of the year are called "Hot Wheels" according to the National Insurance Crime Bureau. Analysis by the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB), the insurance industry’s association dedicated to predicting, preventing, and prosecuting insurance crime, shows vehicles with the highest theft rate last year were full-size pickups. I've got a list of them right here.

You can check and see if yours is on the list. The most stolen vehicle was.... the 2004 Chevy Pickup! Well, at least it's different than in years past... it was always a Honda Civic before. Here's the list.

So as you can see, the make, number of vehicles stolen with that make, and the most stolen year are there as well.

So how do you keep your ride safe? The NICB suggests using what they call "layered protection". Basically layer one is stuff like locking your vehicle, closing the windows, take out the keys, stuff like that. Layer two is a visible or audible device that will make the thieves move on to an easier target. Stuff like an audible alarm (your car probably comes with one), steering column collars, brake locks, wheel locks, things like that. Layer three includes smart keys, kill switches, fuel disablers, and the like. And the last layer they recommend is to invest in a tracking system. That part might be a bit over my head.

Anyways, if you use some common sense and a little extra care, you should be okay. But if you do get a vehicle stolen... I hope you're layered up!
