Sedalia Police Reports for April 3, 2024

Tuesday night, Officers were dispatched to the 2400 block of Greenwood Lane in reference to a report of Harassment. On arrival, Officers collected information and the report was submitted.

About an hour later, Officers responded to the Bothwell Regional Health Center, 601 East 14th Street, in reference to a trespassing call. The subject fled the scene before Officers arrival. However, he was identified and were able to make contact with the suspect later in the 2400 block of Greenwood Lane. Richard Parris Hagan, 46, of Sedalia, was arrested on a charge of Assault in the 4th Degree and Trespassing in the 2nd Degree. Hagan was placed on a 24-hour hold.

Monday morning, an Officer was dispatched to the lobby of the Police Department to investigate a fraud allegation. A member of the LifePointe Church said they were scammed by someone claiming to the be the Pastor in an email. The member was directed to purchase approximately $1,247.70 worth of pre-paid gift cards from the Lowe’s Home Improvement store, 3811 West Broadway Boulevard. The numbers of the cards were given to the scammer.

Tuesday morning, Officers responded to the 1100 block of East 10th Street in reference to a structure fire. Officers secured the scene and everyone in the house was able to exit the structure without any injuries.

Sedalia Police were dispatched to the area of East 24th Street and South Washington Avenue for a report of found property Tuesday morning. The caller stated there was a wheel chair sitting on the side of the road. Officers were able to make contact with the property owner. The owner, HMP DME Services, was able to pick the wheel chair up.

Officers spoke with Reynaldo Talavera Tuesday morning in the lobby of the Police Department. Talavera wished to report a theft that occurred on March 13th, 2024 in the 600 block of West Pettis Street.

Monday evening, Officers contacted an individual with two separate Failure to Appear warrants for his arrest out Pettis County. The suspect surrendered himself to the lobby of the Sedalia Police Department. One FTA warrant, stemming from charges filed in May of 2023, was issued March 2024 on original charges of Stealing. Bond on that warrant was set at $250 cash only. The other FTA warrant, began by an infraction filed by citation in October of 2023. The warrant was issued in March of 2024 after he failed to appear on original charges of Operating As A Motor Carrier Without a Medical Certificate*. Bond was set at $250 cash only. Kelton Robert Hunter, 31, of Sedalia, was arrested for his two FTA warrants.

Tuesday afternoon, Officers took a report that a vehicle drove away from the pump with the hose still attached to the vehicle at the Rush Hour, 1320 South Limit Avenue. The driver of the vehicle later came back the next day, and left the hose at the pump without identifying himself.

Sedalia Police spoke with Christina Burkes on the afternoon of April 1st. Burkes stated she had conned on Facebook, and $500 was stolen from her.

Monday morning, Officers identified a suspect with a warrant for their arrest in the area of Bucker Court. Kourteney JoAnna Parker, 28, of Sedalia, had two FTA warrants from Pettis County. One was filed by citation in October of 2023 on a charge of Operating a Motor Vehicle on the Highway While Suspended. The summons was mailed in December of 2023, and Parker missed the hearing in January of 2024. The warrant was served on the first of March of 2024, but Parker missed another hearing on the charge with an FTA issued on March 20, 2024. Bond on that warrant was set at $100 cash only. The other charge stemmed from a citation in December of 2023 on another charge of Driving While Suspended. Parker missed the hearing in January of 2024, and a warrant was issued in February of 2024. However, Parker missed the second hearing on that charge on March 12th, 2024. Bond on that charge was set at $500 cash or surety.

Officers conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of West 17th Street and South Osage Avenue on a vehicle that had expired registration. Officers identified the driver and discovered she was driving without a license, and also had no proof of insurance. Shaykota Lynn Karrick Rumsey, 20, of Sedalia, was arrested for a charge of No Proof of Insurance and Operator’s License Required. Rumsey was then released at the scene with a city summons.

*All CDL holders must comply with federal motor carrier safety regulations and provide information about the type of commercial vehicle operation they drive in, or expect to drive in, with their CDL. Depending on the type of operation, some drivers will also be required to submit a current medical examiner’s certificate to obtain a “certified” medical status as part of their driving record, as required by state and federal law (see Section 302.768, RSMo, and 49 CFR Section 383.71).
State and federal regulations require the Department of Revenue to retain a copy of the medical card, collect information from the card, notify drivers of a license downgrade if they have allowed their medical card to expire, and transmit driver medical card status to other state licensing agencies. Under these laws, the Department will collect CDL medical card information through the license offices.
