Sedalia Police Reports for July 31, 2023

Early Monday morning, Officers were dispatched to the area near Gate 6A on Clarendon Road in reference to a crash. During the course of the investigation, it was discovered the driver’s license was suspended out of Ohio. Mark W. Cline, 56, of Gibsonton Florida, was arrested for Driving While Suspended. Cline was transported to the Pettis County Jail to be booked and released.

Officers were dispatched to the Wal Mart store, 3201 West Broadway Boulevard Sunday night for a call in regards to stealing. Upon arrival, Officers were able to locate the subject and arrested her. Na’kendra Shaune’ McGee, 26, of Sedalia, was arrested for Shoplifting. McGree was transported to the Petits County Jail to be booked and released.

Friday night, Officers took a report over the phone from Janice Vanbooven. Vanbooven stated she left her wallet at the Kehde’s restaurant, 1915 South Limit Avenue. Vanbooven stated she has not been able to locate the wallet.

Sunday evening, Officers were dispatched to a hit and run accident near South Ohio Avenue and West 5th Street. When Officers arrived, they spoke to Ryan K. Edwards, who stated someone had hit his parked motorcycle and then left the area. No arrests have been made at this time.

Early Saturday morning, Officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle near South Montgomery Avenue and East 7th Street that had been observed speeding. During the course of the investigation, it was discovered the driver was intoxicated, and had a suspended driving status. The suspect was arrested and transported to the Sedalia Police Department, where he provided a breath sample that showed his BAC was above 0.08. Luis Alberto Sotelo, 26, of Sedalia, was transported to the Pettis County Jail to be booked on charges of Driving While Intoxicated (Prior Offender) and Driving while Suspended. Sotelo was booked and released.

Sedalia Police were dispatched to the Bothwell Regional Health Center, 601 East 14th Street Saturday night in reference to Trespassing. When Officers arrived, they contacted BRHC security, who said the subject had been discharged, and refused to leave. They said they made an attempt to assist with getting the subject a ride home, but the subject was uncooperative. The subject was asked to leave, but refused. Officers directed the subject to leave, and she got up and moved to a wheelchair in the breezeway. Julie Shalnev, 27, of Sedalia, was arrested for Trespassing in the 1st Degree. Shalnev was transported to the Pettis County Jail to be booked and released.

Last Thursday night, Officers were dispatched to the 800 block of Brentwood Avenue for a call regarding an ex-parte violation. Officers searched the area of the suspect, and he was not able to be located in the area or surrounding areas. Officers gathered necessary information to generate a report and submit formal charges.

Last Tuesday evening, Officers were dispatched to the area near South Engineer Avenue and East 18th Street in reference to a crash involving a small homemade motorcycle and a car. During the course of the investigation, it was discovered the driver of the car had a suspended driver’s license, and was intoxicated. The suspect was arrested and transported to the Sedalia Police Department, where he provided a breath sample that showed her BAC was above 0.08. The rider of the homemade motorcycle was transported to Research Hospital for his injuries. Jennifer Marie Archambault, 40, of Sedalia, was arrested for Driving While Suspended, and felony Driving While Intoxicated.

Sedalia Police were dispatched to the 400 block of West 5th Street last Tuesday night in reference to a violation of an order of protection. Officers spoke with Devon Balark, who said he heard someone knocking on his door. When he checked his cameras, he observed the suspect walking away from his residence. There is an order of protection in place. A request for the charge of Violation of an Order of Protection has been submitted to the prosecutor.

Officers responded to the 100 block of West 14th Street in reference to a deceased male Sunday night. Officers located the male subject, and PCAD confirmed he was deceased. The Pettis County Coroner responded, and the male subject was released to a funeral home. The family was contacted.

Sunday afternoon, Marshal Buesing came into the lobby of the Police Department to report his motor boat had been stolen. A report was completed.

Last Tuesday evening, Officers were dispatched to check on a subject that was on the Katy Trail near Clarendon Road. The caller stated the suspect appeared to be intoxicated, and was making comments (The nature of which were not mentioned in the report). The suspect was located. After speaking to him for a short time, it was determined he was in fact intoxicated. The decision was made to take him into protective custody. James Lincoln McMillin, 40, Homeless (Warrensburg), was placed under arrest for Safekeeping. McMillin was taken to the BRHC for a fit for confinement check. After being cleared, McMillin was transported to the Pettis County Jail to be placed on a 12-hour hold.

Sedalia Police were dispatched to a possible burglary in progress in the 1400 block of West 3rd Street Sunday afternoon. The suspect had been previously been given a no-trespass warning for the residence. The victim stated the suspect was knocking on the door, and even opened it at one point. Isamar E. Sauerbrei, 29, of Sedalia, was arrested for Trespassing. Sauerbrei was then given a court summons and released from the scene.

Saturday morning, Officers conducted a traffic stop near South Limit Avenue and Plaza Avenue on a vehicle they had observed failing to maintain its lane. During the investigation, it was discovered the driver of the car had a revoked driver’s license, and was intoxicated. Mick Mackey, 24, of Bogata Texas, was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated (Prior Offender) and Driving While Revoked. Mackey was arrested and transported to the Sedalia Police Department, where he provided a breath sample that showed his BAC was above 0.08. Mackey was then transported to the Pettis County Jail.

Saturday night, Officers made contact with a vehicle in the drive through at the McDonald’s restaurant, 1611 South Limit Avenue. The driver was found to have a warrant out of Saline County.* Blake Austin Hollon, 24, of Warrensburg, was arrested on his Failure to Appear warrant. Hollon was transported to the Saline County Line, where he was transferred into the custody of the issuing agency.

On the evening of July 29th, a reporting party found a bicycle while walking the trail at Centennial Park. The serial number was checked, and it was not listed as stolen. It was described as a painted silver Huffy bicycle with custom handle bars.

Sedalia Police responded to the 900 block of Winchester Drive in reference to an overdose Saturday afternoon. Upon arrival, Officers were able to administer NARCAN. The subject became more alert and transported to the BRHC for further treatment.

Saturday afternoon, Officers responded to the 2200 block of South Engineer Avenue in reference to a theft. Ronald D. Chronister stated someone had stolen his keys. At this time, no suspects have been identified.

A report was taken over the phone Saturday morning in reference to a violation of an order of protection. The order of protection was confirmed to have ben served. The investigation showed a clear violation of the order in the 600 block of East 9th Street. Dilbert Gale Clark, 52, of Sedalia, was arrested for Violation of a Full Order of Protection. Clark was transported to the Pettis County Jail to be booked and released.

Friday afternoon, Officers were dispatched to a theft report in the 4200 block of Wisconsin Avenue. Richard Ash stated he was parked in the area when he noticed one of this two license plates were stolen. Ash stated he was not sure of when or where exactly the plate was taken. The plate was entered into NCIC and MULES as stolen.

Friday evening, Officers were dispatched to the 3800 block of West Broadway Boulevard for a report regarding fraud. Upon arrival, Officers collected the necessary information to generate a report.

Officers observed a white Dodge Charger with a dealer plate being operated by a driver known to have a suspended driving status early Saturday morning. The suspect was contacted in the area of West 5th Street and South Vermont Avenue. Anthony Lamar Melton, 35, of Pembrook, Illinois, was placed under arrest. Melton was transported to the Pettis County Jail to be placed on a 24-hour hold pending charges of Driving While Suspended and felony Failure to Register as a Sex Offender.

On the afternoon of July 25th, Officers responded to the Phillips 66, 216 West Broadway Boulevard in reference to a theft. The complainant stated a subject came into the business on multiple occasions and stole various items. The subject as identified, located, and arrested. Richard E. Schull, 38, Homeless, was arrested for Stealing. Schull was placed on a 24-hour hold pending state charges.

Officers spoke with a victim over the phone in reference to a hit and run accident on the afternoon of July 28th. The victim, who was not named in the report, explained that earlier that morning she was loading groceries into her vehicle in the Thompson Hills Shopping Center, 800 Thompson Road. Another vehicle backed into the vehicle door she was standing by. The impact pushed her and caused injury to her right hip. The striking vehicle then proceeded to leave the scene without providing information. At the time of the report, the suspect has not yet been identified.

Sunday night, the Pettis County Joint Communications received a report from Bothwell Regional Health Center (BRHC) that someone had called in saying there was a bomb in the hospital. Law Enforcement Agencies, to include the Sedalia Police Department, Pettis County Sheriff’s Office, and Missouri State Highway Patrol responded to the scene and established a perimeter. They were assisted by the Sedalia Fire Department and the Pettis County Ambulance district. The hospital activated their emergency threat protocols and procedures to limit any exposure to danger. Law Enforcement, BRHC Security, Pettis County explosive detecting K9 Cezar and four bomb sniffing canines from Whiteman Air Force base completed a systematic search of both the inside and outside of the hospital. After the four- and a half-hour search, the hospital was deemed safe and released back to normal operations. The Sedalia Police Department will investigate this report and work to determine who is responsible for making the call.
